Seattle Space needle

It’s Seattle’s most recognized landmark and I saved it for the last night of my vacation in the city.   I’d reserved a table in the restaurant that’s just below the viewing platform at the top of the needle, although I was a little unsure how I’d feel eating at a revolving restaurant.   It was extravagant, but I thought the occasion was worthy of something special, and I reasoned that the fact I could travel up the Space Needle for free rather than paying the money to ride the elevator meant that the meal was somewhat discounted.

The views from my restaurant table were absolutely amazing.   The food was OK, but to be honest I don’t remember what I ate because it wasn’t really about the meal, it was about being at this location and being able to see Seattle, and Washington from such a great vantage point.   As I drank my coffee, the sun was setting over the Puget Sound and it was an amazing sight.

The evening before I’d watched the sunset from Discovery Park and despite Discovery Park having a more serene atmosphere, the restaurant views were spectacular.   Earlier in the meal I looked out across Washington towards Mount Rainer, and then the Cascade Mountains moved into view.   The visual experience was such that I didn’t even notice the restaurant was moving, just that the “picture” outside the restaurant window was slowly changing.

Eating at the restaurant isn’t one of Seattle’s grandest culinary experiences – although their coffee is Starbucks (as you might expect in the Emerald City) – but what it lacks in cuisine, it sure makes up for in stunning eye cuisine!
